Houston plays catch up with New York in launching its own Fashion Week, a seven-day showcase for US spring/summer 2016 collections including international labels like Beena Yusuf (DUBAI).

Houston is growing and Fashion Week is fitting in an rapidly expanding market. International labels like Beena Yusuf will rub shoulders with the up-and-coming such as Marion Verron (France), Juan Ignacio Ormeno (Venezuela) and locals Tony Rio, MzGwen Davis, Mia Arenas. Designers will present and entire week of shows, spread across seven days and concentrated at the Mercedes-Benz of Houston North and the Czech Center Museum in trend-setting Museum District.

The Texas market is champing at the bit for recognition after being drowned out for years by the twice-yearly fashion weeks in the Big Apple, which feature hundreds and hundreds of fashion shows. "Texas has never been stronger or more creative, our internet traffic is amazing with thousands of visitors per day " said Victor Quinteros Executive director for Houston Fashion Week®. "Houston Fashion Week® will now be held twice a year, in March and October, following established events in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Quinteros called it "an opportunity to demonstrate the collective talent of an important segment of our industry".

Bloggers have led the way in driving interest, filling a void left by the fashion press and travelling to Texas to see the shows. "With so much interest, a huge number of American retailers, bloggers and followers, it just made sense that that needed to happen here," he said. Millennia's lead the way.

"It definitely signals that companies are paying attention to what's going on in terms of style and there's a much more rapid evolution of the industry than there has been in the past," Quinteros said Houston Fashion Week® would particularly benefit talented designers like Mia Arenas, who would be otherwise overlooked in September. "This is going to do more for her -- the press will pay more attention, and winter time is kind of nice. It generates a different kind of energy than September showing," he said.

Featuring designers such as local designer: Tony Rio, Mia Arenas, Vidaurri Swimwear, Kiss My Kids Boutique. International designers: Beena Yusuf, Juan Ignacio Ormeno, Marion Verron. Celebrity appearances by, NFL player Johnathan Jospeh and NFL player Kareem Jackson.
